Drugs acting on blood or blood forming organs also known as drugs acting on hematopoietic system word hematopoietic means, "blood producing."  drugs acting on the hematopoietic system would pertain to drugs that act on the blood producing system of the body.
Drugs acting on blood are broadly classified as
those acting on to produce blood
or those acting on blood to interfere with  coagulation

there are following main classes of drugs that acts on blood and blood forming organs

Antithrombotic agents
Antihemorrhagics
Antianemic preparations
Blood substitutes and perfusion solutions

  • An Antithrombotic agent is a drug that reduces thrombus formation. They can be used therapeutically for primary prevention (Methods to avoid occurrence of disease.), secondary prevention (Methods to diagnose and treat existent disease in early stages before it causes significant morbidity.), or treatment of an acute thrombus.
  • An Antihemorrhagic agent is that which is used to prevent or stop bleeding, it is also known as haemostatic agent.
  • An Antianemic preperation or agents are those drugs which are used for the treatment of Anemia, or simply these drugs increases the number or production  of RBCs or  amount of Heamoglobin.
