Many different analgesics are used in the management of pain. A number of other drug classes whose usual primary role is other than the relief of pain are also used. These drugs, usually called adjuvants, or 'co-analgesics', are used to supplement analgesics to improve pain control or to control symptoms that have exacerbated the perception of pain.
Other drugs may be recommended for pain relief in some clinical situations (eg glyceryl trinitrate for angina). These drugs are dealt with elsewhere or in standard textbooks.
